Allan Northcott

President

Allan is President at Max Bell Foundation, where he supports the Board of Directors in their governance and strategy duties, and supports the team across opportunity development, brand and relationships, and administration. Prior to joining Max Bell Foundation in 1998, Allan was a member of the academic staff at the University of Illinois and the University of Calgary, and was a member of the research staff at Canada West Foundation. He has served as an advisor and on the boards of a number of non-profit organizations. He has served as a member of the boards of directors of Imagine Canada, Philanthropic Foundations Canada, and The Pemsel Case Foundation, and the Agora Foundation. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for The Philanthropist.

Margaret Herriman

Program Officer

Margaret is a Program Officer at Max Bell Foundation where she supports strategic grantmaking and contributes to the Foundation’s work in strengthening civic engagement and public policy capacity. Prior to joining the Foundation in 2016, she worked in communications, fund development and program delivery for children and adults. Margaret holds a Master of Arts in History from the University of Calgary and Bachelor of Journalism Honours from the University of King’s College.

Kim Ah-Sue

Program Director

Kim is Program Director at Max Bell Foundation, where she leads strategic grantmaking and supports the Foundation’s professional development initiatives. Previously, she spent a decade at the Palix Foundation advancing collaborative efforts in early childhood development, addiction, and mental health, working closely with policymakers, researchers, service providers, and community partners. Earlier in her career, she worked in environmental and sustainability consulting across Canada, the United States, and China. Kim holds a Master of Science in International Development from SOAS, University of London, and a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University. She is fluent in English and French, with conversational proficiency in Mandarin.

Jasveen Brar

Program Officer

Jasveen is a Program Officer at Max Bell Foundation, where she supports strategic grantmaking and contributes to the Foundation’s work in strengthening civic engagement and public policy capacity. Previously, she served as Executive Director advancing youth leadership in climate action by expanding access to skills development, financing pathways, and policy literacy. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and ESS (Environment, Sustainability & Society) from Dalhousie University. Jasveen has been recognized as one of Corporate Knights’ Top 30 Under 30 Sustainability Leaders, a Top 25 Environmentalist by Starfish Canada, and is a recipient of the Governor General’s Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.

Grants Coordinator/Administrator

Arlene is the Grants Coordinator & Administrator at Max Bell Foundation, where she provides support for the Foundation’s granting programs and operations. Prior to joining Max Bell Foundation in February 2020, Arlene worked in the areas of grants, office and people management, human resources, and administration. She enjoys having been a part of the non-profit sector for so long and the opportunity to contribute to making a difference in people’s lives.

Emily Ede

Executive and Administrative Assistant

Emily is the Executive & Administrative Assistant at Max Bell Foundation, where she supports the Foundation’s leadership, grantmaking, and day-to-day operations. Prior to joining the Max Bell Foundation, she worked with Calgary Seniors’ Resource Society and completed her practicum with the Elizabeth Fry Society of Calgary. In these roles, she worked directly with people navigating difficult circumstances and helped build programs and partnerships to better meet their needs. Emily holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Development Studies and Sociology from the University of New Brunswick.
