Summary
Environmental Law Centre assessed the appropriateness of water trusts as a policy mechanism to protect Alberta’s water resources. A water trust can protect the flow of a river by purchasing the right to leave a certain amount of water instream. The Environmental Law Centre examined their relative merits compared with alternatives, and will prepare a policy framework to guide implementation of potential flow preservation tools.
