A more inclusive definition of 'protected lands' allows for more Canadian conservation

Summary

Nature Conservancy intends to broaden the definition of protected areas in Canada through the development of a national framework for formally recognizing, certifying and accounting for privately protected lands, working landscapes, other effective area-based measures, and Indigenous conserved areas.  This framework will assist Canada in meeting its stated goal of conserving 17% of terrestrial areas and inland water by 2020.
