Toward Permanent Protection for Certified Forest Conservation Lands

Developing a policy pathway can make it easier to move voluntarily conserved lands to permanent, legislatively protected conservation areas

Summary

This project will research and develop an economic case transitioning forest conservation lands, and to design and recommend a permanent conservation policy pathway to decision makers. These conservation set-asides present an opportunity to protect an existing one million hectares in Ontario. By creating a policy pathway to: a) provide interim protections from other industrial activity, and b) permanently protect and conserve these lands, these Ontario forests, and future set asides can be permanently protected.
